Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP (WRA) is a nationally recognized, top 125 Architecture and Engineering firm that services a broad range of Federal and Municipal Government, Higher Education and Research institutions, K-12 School, and Industrial/Manufacturing clients. WRA is seeking talented and motivated Historic Preservation Architect to help expand our growing design studio. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in developing the office, experience more responsibility and gain opportunity for growth in creative concepts, detailed design, client development and project management. Our firm provides unique growth opportunities for motivated individuals with talent and drive.  Projects include historic rehabilitation, historic restoration, adaptive reuse, condition assessments, and compatible new design in historic contexts within buildings and districts listed on State and National Register of Historic Places.


The ideal candidate has the following credentials and abilities:

  • Between 10-20 years of related experience.
  • Accredited Professional Degree in Architecture (Bachelor's or Masters of Architecture).
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Professional license in the U.S. or working toward licensure.
  • Interest in Architectural History and Historic Preservation.
  • Familiarity with the Secretary of the Interior Standards for Restoration and Rehabilitation and project reviews through State Historic Preservation Offices
  • Experience with prior project and team management.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a set of construction documents.
  • Knowledge of contemporary and historic materials, details, and construction.
  • Candidate must possess both excellent design and technical skills; and be motivated to apply those skills to the development of superior architecture.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Passion for historic buildings and design excellence, collaborative spirit, willingness to learn/mentor, and a sense of humor.
  • Experience in creating interesting and engaging graphics for building design presentations is vital.
  • Candidates should be self-motivated, detail-oriented and thorough in their desire to provide exceptional client service.
  • Ability to focus on multiple projects at once and work in a fast-paced environment. Adaptability and flexibility are essential.
  • Some limited travel possible: project-related travel within 400 miles.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD™ and Revit™.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Project, Excel and Word.
  • Experience with Sketchup, Illustrator, Photoshop, and other graphics programs desirable.
