POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance, care and efficient operation of all equipment and facilities used by the organization. The position is responsible for the repair, preventative maintenance and routine inspection of machines, tools, vehicles, facilities and equipment utilized at Whitney Blake facilities. The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for preserving the good condition of infrastructure and equipment to ensure safe and well-functioning systems. Additionally, the position will assist in the oversight and implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS) at Whitney Blake in accordance with OSHA and VOSHA requirements. This will includes, but is not limited to, all programs and policies with the SMS, compliance audits and the execution of SMS. The ideal candidate will be well-organized and able to optimize the use of space and equipment while reducing operating costs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs and manages maintenance programs, processes and staff to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
- Hires and directs contractors to provide maintenance of systems, equipment, utilities, HVAC, and grounds.
- Directly trains and supervises the maintenance staff; assigns work, communicates expectations, monitors progress, adjusts to changes and new information, and ensures satisfactory completion of scheduled work.
- Designs robust preventative maintenance plans, and ensures timely and thorough execution.
- Applies sound troubleshooting methodologies in the investigation and corrective action of root causes as they pertain to machines, tools, vehicles, facilities and equipment. This application will include any safety related processes and incident investigations.
- Improves function and reliability of safety, equipment and facility systems by studying performance results and conferring with operating departments; identifies and implements changes, improvements, and upgrades as appropriate.
- Creates capital and expense budgets for all maintenance and safety activities; tracks actual expenses against budget to achieve business performance objectives
- Maintains accurate and complete records.
- Creates a culture of excellent customer service; treats others with respect, follows through on commitments, and regularly and proactively communicates status to those waiting for work to be completed to include internal and external stakeholders.
- Assists in oversight of the SMS to provide consistency and compliance with OSHA and VOSHA requirements, which includes direct work and cooperation with leaders and staff in all functions of the organization.
- Reviews all incidents and accidents with safety committee and management.
- Ensures compliance with company policies and business practices to include industry standards, good manufacturing practices, ISO requirements and all OSHA and VOSHA requirements.
- Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance skills; ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of production facility equipment
- Proficient in one or more of these trades: electronics, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics, machine shop, welding
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, government regulations, safety rules and company policies
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization or information may exist
- Team player capable of interacting at all levels in the successful resolution of day-to-day operational issues

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A degree in industrial engineering or a related technical discipline is preferred. Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree for the candidate who can successfully fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- 5-10 years of experience in a high paced manufacturing or other technical environment.
- 3 years of demonstrated safety program leadership/management.
- At least 3 years of demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience.
- Master, journeyman or special Electrician license in the state of Vermont highly desired.
- In depth knowledge of electronics highly desired.
- Industrial training or experience in mechanical, electrical and control systems highly desired.
- Safety related certification or completion of formal training (ex. OSHA - 10 or -30 hour courses).
COMPUTER SKILLS
- Ability to research solutions to problems via the internet, and search for parts, supplies and services.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and MS Office applications (Word and Excel).
- Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Software systems.
- Working knowledge of project management software.
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS
- Direct supervisory responsibility facilities/maintenance staff employees.
- Supervisory responsibility for part-time contractors and external contract services as required.
- Training, coaching, mentoring, and project leadership.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Recurring physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling and using tools. The ability to move or lift up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Manufacturing: work involves use of manufacturing equipment and close proximity to equipment. May be exposed to routine manufacturing related substances.
- Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and exposure to high heat, noise, and chemicals.
- Location: The role will include support all Whitney Blake facilities/operations located in Bellows Falls Vermont, North Walpole, New Hampshire and Monterrey, Mexico.
- Travel: 10% as required.
- Ability to work hours as required, that are appropriate to completing projects and tasks on schedule. Standard working hours will be 7am to 4pm.
