The Whitney is looking for Lighting Technicians with experience in theatrical lighting, and general stage production on an hourlyoverhire/on-call basis (project-based, no regular hours). The Lighting Technician will work under the direction of Theater Management, internal stakeholders, or external producers/production management within the Susan and John Hess Family Theater and other Museum locations on occasion. This position will contribute to supporting upwards of 400 events annually.

Main responsibilities:

  • Hang, circuit, focus, and troubleshoot LED (ETC Lustr II, D40) and automated fixtures
  • Maintain and restore rep lighting plot
  • Maintain and update documentation for lighting system
  • Serve as lighting operator and/or designer for select events
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 3 years of lighting experience in a theatrical, Museum performance, or equivalent setting
  • Friendly and professional attitude – the Lighting Technician may work in close proximity to the Whitney’s artists & Education teams as well as rental clients
  • Ability to read, understand, and execute technical drawings and paperwork
  • Ability to hang, circuit, focus, network, and troubleshoot theatrical LED lighting fixtures and associated infrastructure; knowledge of rigging and mounting techniques
  • Skills in lighting design and operation (ETC Ion, Nomad); knowledge of theatrical lighting techniques
  • Proficiency in Vectorworks, Lightwright, Microsoft Office Suite, GSuite
  • Available to work late nights, weekends, and possible holidays

Physical requirements:

  • Comfort working at heights up to 30’ on ladders and personnel lifts (training provided)
  • Ability to regularly walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, reach and climb in various positions to perform tasks
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Compensation:

  • This is on-callposition with an hourly wage of $35
