What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Technician position at Whitson Vision?
Our established ophthalmology practice is seeking a dedicated ophthalmic scribing technician to join our team! This job entails working closely with our doctors to provide the best patient care, conduct diagnostic tests, and maintain accurate medical records. The ideal candidate must be friendly, motivated to problem solve, flexible, detail oriented and have a strong work ethic. This position is full-time and is typically stationery, however, it may require travel to our additional location in Avon.
JOB SUMMARY:
Our scribing technicians are responsible for performing many data collecting functions as requested by the physicians to allow for proper professional diagnosis of our patients' conditions.
SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Comprehensive knowledge of refraction
- Computer and electronic medical record skills
- Maintains accurate medical records
- Obtaining quality HPI’s and thorough medical histories
- Obtains accurate visual acuity, manual lensometry, confrontational fields, stereo testing, color plates, ocular motility, pupil function, applanation and non-contact tonometry, refractometry, autorefraction, anterior angle assessment, eye drop instillation, vision field testing, ocular coherence tomography, pachymetry, corneal topography, fundus and external photography, specular microscopy, and other tasks specific to the physician needs.
- Assists with minor procedures
- Triage
- Patient education
- Instrument sterilization
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
- Assist in maintaining an efficient patient workflow
REQUIREMENTS:
- 1 year experience in optometry and/or ophthalmology
- High school diploma
- Able to work in fast paced environments
- Ability to work closely with physicians to maintain proper medical records
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Team player
- Excellent time management skills
- Able to take direction and constructive criticism with ease
- Other duties as required
PREFERRED BUT NOT MANDATORY:
- COA or COT certification
