What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service Worker - Palisades School Nutrition position at Whitsons Culinary Group?
These positions are district positions and are responsible for making and serving nutritious delicious meals to students.
- Must willingly perform any and all tasks deemed necessary by the Director of Food
the regulations of the National School Lunch Program and/or its associated programs.
These tasks include, but are not limited to, food preparation, food service at meal times,
encouragement toward healthy eating, and clean up of any equipment and kitchen areas
related to the preparation, serving and consumption of school meals, including floors and
walls.
- In addition to the above duties, a food handler may be directed by the Cafeteria Crew
catered by the Food Service department.
- A food handler must maintain good health and hygiene at all times so as to protect all

- Dress in an appropriate manner. A food service uniform, pants suit, or casual slack/skirt
apron or smock may be worn, if desired. During the hotter months of September, May
and June shorts may be worn but must be of walking style, no shorter than two inches
above the knee and may not have a cut-off or frayed hemline. Faded or worn denim,
sweatshirt cloth, spandex and clinging cotton knit are not acceptable fabrics. Tank tops,
halters, sleeveless tops and t-shirts (other than t-shirts designed for food service or
Palisades school spirit) are not acceptable. All clothing should be clean, neat and
unwrinkled.
Shoes must be sensible and sturdy. No open toed, sling back or clog styles are to be

worn. Heels higher than 2” are strongly discouraged.
Jewelry should be limited to a wedding ring, watch and earrings, if desired. Rings
containing stones that may separate from the setting and dangling style earrings
should be avoided.
- It will be the responsibility of the crew chief to determine the appropriateness of
to change into appropriate clothing. The time spent away from work while this is
accomplished will be deducted from the employee's payable hours worked and mileage
will not be reimbursed. If there is a question as to the crew chief's judgment in such a
situation, the food service director will be notified and will make the final decision.
