The LEGO Camp Counselor is responsible for leading and facilitating LEGO-based activities and projects for campers, creating an engaging and supportive environment that promotes creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. This role involves planning and executing activities, supervising campers, and ensuring a positive and safe camp experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Activity Facilitation:
- Plan, organize, and lead LEGO-based activities and building challenges that align with the camp’s educational and recreational objectives.
- Develop and execute creative and interactive lessons that incorporate LEGO bricks, including free-building sessions, themed challenges, and collaborative projects.
- Adapt activities to suit the age, skill level, and interests of the campers, ensuring all participants
2. Camper Engagement and Supervision:
- Provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for campers, encouraging their participation and enthusiasm for STEM activities.
- Monitor and support campers throughout the day, addressing their needs and ensuring they follow camp rules and guidelines.
- Foster positive relationships with campers, promoting teamwork, cooperation, and respect among peers.
3. Safety and Well-being:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers by following all camp safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Supervise campers during activities, breaks, and mealtimes, and address any behavioral issues or conflicts in a constructive manner.
- Administer first aid and manage any health-related concerns as needed, while maintaining accurate records.
4. Mentorship and Support:
- Act as a role model and mentor for campers, providing guidance, encouragement, and support throughout their camp experience.
- Help campers set and achieve personal and educational goals related to STEM interests and skills.
- Offer constructive feedback and celebrate camper achievements and progress.
5. Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other camp counselors and staff to ensure smooth operation of daily activities and effective communication within the team.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay informed about camp policies, procedures, and program updates.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of STEM camp programs and activities.
6. Parent and Community Interaction:
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about camper progress, activities, and any concerns that arise.
- Participate in community events such as back to school nights, STEM Family nights, or showcases to highlight camper projects and achievements.
7. Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain accurate records of camper attendance, participation, and any incidents or issues.
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of camp materials and supplies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant college coursework or degree in education, STEM fields, or a related discipline preferred.
- Experience working with children or in a camp setting, with a strong understanding of STEM concepts and enthusiasm for STEM education.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire campers.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and adapt to changing needs and situations.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain certification.
- Creative problem-solving skills and a passion for fostering curiosity and learning in STEM subjects.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, including standing, walking, and participating in camp activities.
- Capability to lift and carry materials or equipment up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
- Primarily indoor camp environment.
- Interaction with a diverse group of campers and staff, requiring flexibility and adaptability.
Transportation Requirement
You must have a personal car/vehicle for this role.
Interview Requirement
All interviews are held in-person at our Columbia, Maryland office. Information regarding directions will be provided if selected for an interview.
