Job Description

Responsible for the creation and maintenance of accurate, compliant, and cleanly built packaging files for Whole Foods Market collection of exclusive brands; working within a collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment.

This role is based in Austin, Texas with an expectation of being in the Store Support office five days a week.

Core Responsibilities :

Build packaging mechanicals for food, supplements and other consumer goods within Whole Foods Market’s collection of exclusive brands using approved design concepts, brand guidelines and direction from designers and art director.
Design well-balanced, aesthetically pleasing line extensions based on lead item designs and guidance from designer and art director.
Thoroughly review and edit design files throughout the process, making sure all information is accurate and artwork is consistent with our brand standards.
Collaborate with designers and project managers to find elegant and compliant design solutions for all FDA required information.
Accurately complete extensive mechanical revisions to design files for product packaging.
Collaborate with print production specialists to optimize designs for various printing processes.
Prepare printer-ready art files for prepress house and / or printer and communicate release of files to appropriate parties.
Work closely with print production specialists, project managers, and designers to communicate and resolve any printing issues.
Ensure design assets and support art files are properly archived upon project completion.
Play an active role in design team training and process improvements.

Must Have / Be :

A portfolio demonstrating a thorough understanding of layout, typography, and color.

Excellent attention to detail and a drive to create clean, accurate, and high-quality files.

Thorough understanding of dielines, printing processes, and ink stations.

Ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Excellent listening skills and ability to interpret and incorporate detailed feedback on food packaging.

Clear and effective communication skills.

A team player willing to jump into any phase of the packaging design process or assist other team members as needed.

Ability to take constructive criticism and change direction when needed.

Flexibility to adapt to timeline developments and reprioritize when needed.

Well organized and willing to build and save files adhering to the team methods.

Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design or similar curriculum preferred.

Advanced experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe Acrobat.

Knowledge / familiarity with food packaging a plus.
