Independent abortion providers like Whole Woman's Health Alliance provide over 60% of abortions in the United States and intentionally operate in areas of the country that have the most onerous regulations. We do this because we believe safe, affordable, quality abortion care should be accessible to all, regardless of their zip code.

Summary 

The Director of Marketing and Communications will lead the marketing and communications initiatives for both Whole Woman’s Health and the clinics and organizations we provide management services to, including the no-profit organization Whole Woman’s Health Alliance. The ideal candidate will tell the story of our organizations in an exciting and authentic way to engage our key audiences by conveying our history, values, mission and detailing our work. Responsibilities include increasing and amplifying our health care services and our programmatic work while maintaining credibility. Will oversee promoting the organization(s), advertising, branding, and core value alignment on both a national and local market level. The Director will follow the direction set by the CEO, collaborating with her and the Executive Team on developing and implementing strategic plans that ensure the mission, vision and values of Whole Woman’s Health are communicated effectively and consistently.  

 

 

Essential Functions 


 Marketing

  • Become an expert regarding all markets where WWH manages clinics – maintain mastery of the demographic data and trends in our service areas, the population needs/changes, and local cultures. 
  • Monitor and provide competition analysis for each market. Identify areas for growth while mitigating potential weaknesses.
  • Develop and implement creative, on brand marketing strategies in line with the company’s mission and vision. 
  • Develop creative marketing campaigns working with internal content experts at WWH and outside consultants as needed.
  • Develop and execute national (brand) and local (brand and direct) marketing campaigns.
  • Collaborate with advocacy teams and help facilitate local marketing and community outreach plans.
  • Plan and staff events such as hosting a WWH booth at a conference, holding an abortion 101 clinic tour at one of our clinic sites for referring physicians, elected officials or press/media.
  • Serve as liaison with industry and political allies/organizations, including; NARAL, ACN, NAF, NAAF, CRR. TLP, and many reproductive rights, health and justice organizations and other allies in our coalitions. 
  • Manage social networking advertising campaigns and maintain a presence for our repro/abortion care services in communities/states/regions with clinics managed by WWH. 
  • Serve as the key HQ team member to manage SEO and SEM campaigns for all clinic sites. Monitor effectiveness, manage written content and artwork/look to keep I fresh, relevant and on-brand.
  • Develop marketing budgets and provide reporting to gauge effectiveness of initiatives. 
  • Serve as primary contact for web design and web hosting vendors. 
Communications
  • Ensure that the voice of WWH, WWHA, and the Founder and CEO, has a hold and presence nationally and locally, is current and mission aligned.
  • Maintain voice and presence of WWH and WWHA in these communities: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, blogs, TikTok, Reddit, etc.
  • Ensure that WWH and WWHA’s mission, programmatic work and services are consistently presented in a vibrant, engaging voice to relevant stake holders.
  • Serve as primary contact for Communications peers in other allied orgs, especially those we are working closely with on litigation, research or in state, local or national coalitions. 
  • Create and manage internal communications and external communications plans, including executive communications, media relations and crisis communications 
  • Maintain and grow key partnerships with media outlets and across pro-choice organizations and allies in the abortion care community. 
  • Work with the media on proactive and reactive opportunities including identifying stories/angles in coordination with community teams. 
  • Perform media research, monitoring/tracking, outreach and field incoming interview requests.
  • Draft and edit content, including internal announcements, messaging, press releases, Op-Eds, statements for speeches, talking points, events, blog articles, social media, presentations, letters, and web copy.
  • Manage WWH, WWHA and CEO’s social media across all channels, including but not limited to live-tweeting during floor debates, hearings and press conferences 
  • Oversee and execute all digital communications ensuring that it is current and publish original content and graphics that match our brand identity and voice. 
  • Facilitate and grow our message through rapid response communications
  • Serve as intermediary for our culture on our internal communication channels
  • Measure the impact of communications activities; regularly monitor results and feedback to effectively enact changes.
  • Cultivate our voice by crafting messaging and talking points
  • Conduct and coordinate media trainings for the organization’s key spokespeople with an emphasis on training for on-camera interviews, print interviews and talking points.
  • Be an active participant in required summits, retreats and corporate strategy sessions
  • Develop a communications calendar

 

 

Experience and General Requirements 

  • Minimum of 6 years of marketing, communications, digital advertising, PR/media relations experience.
  • Committed to abortion access and supportive of reproductive justice framework and reproductive health care without stigma or shame. 
  • Be a language, word, messaging and lexicon junkie – with mastery of communication styles and nuances. 
  • Bilingual language skills preferred; Spanish or languages commonly spoken in the communities served by WWH. 
  • Sophisticated organizational skills – able to design, implement, and maintain campaigns and organizational systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including demonstrated writing, editing and proofreading skills with evidence of a good story telling acumen.
  • Possess a strategic, innovative perspective and enjoys both collaboration and the freedom to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, possesses a sense of humor and willingness to laugh at her/himself.  
  • Comfortable in an entrepreneurial climate which is fast-paced and dynamic. Handles change and the ambiguity often present in a growth and change environment with maturity and self-assurance.
  • Travel is currently limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In a post-pandemic landscape, travel will be expected approximately 20% of the time.
  • Some work at off-site locations may be required.

 

Physical & Remote Requirements

  • Must possess the ability and capability to perform any task in the office. 
  • Must have excellent visual and hearing acuity.
  • Must be able to cope with the reduced social interaction and contact.
  • Must be self-disciplined and not be distracted from working, be able to complete the expected working hours, and be able to work without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to arrange their family or other commitments to facilitate a suitable working regime and environment.
  • Must have good communication skills including written and verbal reporting.
  • Where necessary, must be willing and able to use new or different communications and IT equipment.
