Essential Job Functions:
- Oversee daily inspection of incoming and outgoing produce to ensure compliance with quality specifications.
- Develop and implement inspection protocols to monitor freshness, ripeness, and overall product condition.
- Maintain detailed records of quality checks, deviations, and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with procurement and distribution teams to address quality concerns with suppliers and vendors.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal food safety regulations, including HACCP, FSMA, and GMP standards.
- Conduct routine audits of facilities and processes to identify potential risks.
- Supervise the proper handling, storage, and transportation of produce to minimize spoilage and contamination.
- Provide training to staff on quality control procedures and food safety practices.
- Manage a team of quality control inspectors, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
- Schedule and prioritize inspection activities to ensure timely distribution of produce.
- Foster a culture of quality and accountability within the team.
- Analyze quality control data to identify trends and recommend process improvements.
- Develop and present reports on quality metrics, non-conformities, and resolutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
- 3 years of experience in quality control, preferably in produce distribution or the fresh food industry.
- Supervisory experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of produce quality standards and grading systems.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, FSMA, USDA, FDA).
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis and quality management software.
