Summary
The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for implementing and maintaining quality assurance and process control monitoring in areas such as food safety programs (i.e. HACCP), sanitation programs (SOP), and the TQC System quality-related programs. Will assist in the proper training of plant employees and the development of quality assurance programs. Conduct periodic reviews of products and processes to ensure customer and Company requirements compliance.
Education, Licensure and Experience
- 5 years of experience, or a combination thereof, in agricultural sciences, biology, chemistry, engineering, and food manufacturing; or 2 years of education in a Bachelor's program related to previous disciplines and 2 years of job experience in a food production facility under a food safety program (SQF, HACCP, or USDA regulation)
- Verifiable certifications in Food Safety.
- Lab experience preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish). Strong communication skills, verbal and written.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Please note: This in no way states or implies that these are the only duties you will be required to perform. - Assist the FSQA manager in the implementation and training of all production professionals on food safety programs for the plant. These include but are not limited to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point), Test and Hold Policy, Gram Positive Environmental Swabbing Program, Raw Material Pathogen Testing Protocol, Cooling and Cooking Deviation Program, Swabbing Protocol after Major Construction, Allergen Control Policy, Finished Product Pathogen Testing, Critical Control Point (CCP) Operator Certification, among others.
- Assure that the monitoring, verification, correction action, and pre-shipment review activities (within their area of responsibility) follow the HACCP plan.
- Train and orient plant professionals and management personnel on their responsibilities.
- Monitor the Standard Sanitary Operating Procedures (SSOP) within their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Conduct periodic recaps of data to measure process improvement.
- Monitor Total Plate Count Swabbing Program (TPC) to review effectiveness of pre-operative sanitation inspection and cleanup.
- Initiate corrective action and preventative measures when a process or product is out of compliance.
- Monitor and maintain QC programs and reporting systems for internal and external customers.
- Train, educate, and monitor auditing procedures.
- Create and implement process procedures in the plant and lab.
- Establish quality and food safety standards, utilizing statistical control.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance to plant policies, USDA regulations, and 3rd party requirements.
- Participate in Quality Improvement Process (QIP) activities within the plant and the QC department by assisting in the establishment of plant and department quality goals and serving on various committees of the QIP.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises personnel to ensure quality service in accordance with the Personnel Manual and applicable laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited:
- Determining staffing requirements necessary to meet the department’s needs.
- Training employees in performance of duties in compliance with all state and federal standards and laws as well as company requirements.
- Planning and directing work schedules to assign and coordinate the work of office employees to promote the efficiency of operations and in accordance with budgeted hours, ensuring that all duties are performed – work assignments to assist staff in completing and performing such tasks.
- Delegating responsibility and accountability to staff as deemed necessary.
- Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.
Language Skills
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English and Spanish (language of the majority cultural group in order to communicate effectively). Must be able to hear enough to understand those individuals as well. Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend documents such as grafts/flow sheets, financials, general professional articles and publications, governmental regulations, safety rules, assignment sheets, and procedure manuals. Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, policies and procedures, and other administrative forms as outlined above.
Must be able to effectively communicate in both individual and group settings. Must be able to present information and respond to questions from individuals and/or groups.

- Computer knowledge in MS Office, Safety Chain, Oracle, Minitab and Carlisle preferred, along with the ability to learn new software.
- Able to lead problem-solving and troubleshooting efforts associated with high-level process issues.
- Ability to work in varying production environments (heat and cold).
- Ability to provide leadership and guidance to employees on the Production Floor.
