The Grower Accountant is a junior position, ideal for candidates with a basic understanding of accounting principles and/or work experience in administrative duties. The role involves providing daily financial support to the Accounting department by performing general accounting functions, with a focus on grower accounting for Wholesum.
Key responsibilities include managing grower statements and sales reports (replacing financial reports), administering grower accounts by accurately coding and processing grower and vendor invoices for payment, and ensuring timely and precise registration. The Grower Accountant will also be responsible for preparing projections and other reporting, while maintaining accurate and updated records for growers. This position will report to and be supervised by the Director of Corporate Finance.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Grower Accounting
- Maintain grower records in system ensuring that all required documents are obtained per company policy (i.e. Contracts, manifests and expense invoices).
- Record all grower and vendor invoices on a weekly basis to submit request for payment in a timely manner. Communicate urgent or necessary payments to Accounting Manager.
- Maintain accurate and organized filing records and excel logs.
- Audit and reconcile intercompany Grower Accounts.
- Develop weekly and quarterly Fair Trade reports, when applicable, both for payment and record.
- Create quarterly Tomato Suspension Agreement volume and sales reports for the Department of Commerce.
- Calculate and submit grower advances, pick & pack, and liquidation for payment.
- Keep control of pre-harvest advances by ensuring the proper calculation of deductions and interest.
- Submit order requisitions to purchasing for post-harvest purchases (i.e. packaging material) requested by grower and approved by the Grower Procurement Representative. Keep organized records and ensure the proper allocation of the costs to the liquidation.
- Generate weekly reports (i.e. Sales, Trouble Reports, Credits and Liquidation) and send to Sales Manager for approval prior to sending to the grower.
Other administrative duties may be assigned.

Education and Experience
- Associates’s degree in business or related field or combination of equivalent experience, education, and training
- Experience in accounting, vendor and grower relationships preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated intermediate-level computer skills
- Proficient use of MS Office Products
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level is highly desirable
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
- Moderate to above moderate levels of English and Spanish writing, speaking, and reading comprehension; active listening
