Job Summary:
The SALT Tax Manager will be directly involved in all aspects of the US Domestic Direct and Indirect Tax processes, including Income, Franchise, Sales and Use, Gross Receipts, Personal and Real Property, and Business Registrations. This position will report to and partner with the Tax Director – North America on tax technical analysis, audits, legislative initiatives, research, planning, and business support. The SALT Tax Manager will also be responsible for determining the appropriate tax footprint/registrations needed, compiling relevant data, determining calculation methodologies, and maintaining compliance calendars. This position will also learn and work with existing tax technology platforms as well as assist with selection and implementation of new platforms.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist with the tax compliance processes including: establishing data parameters that satisfy compliance and audit requirements; extracting data from financial systems or internal stakeholders; analyze financial data for inclusion in returns or corrections, calculate taxes due where necessary; assist with the review/approval of returns; assist in computing cash tax requirements for monthly, quarterly, and annual tax payments; and assist with monthly account reconciliations to ensure compliance with applicable internal accounting requirements.
- Supporting the Tax Director as it relates to business inquiries, research and planning opportunities, and legislating updates. This includes researching and preparing appropriate resale exemption certificates to be provided to vendors.
- Working directly with the Tax Director on audits and controversy including gathering the appropriate documentation, analyzing potential risks, and quantifying impacts relating to financial reporting.
- Assist Tax Director with maintaining licensed Avalara tax technology platforms for sales and use and personal property tax reporting. Also assist with implementing future tax technology solutions.
Qualifications/Requirements
- B.S. in Accounting or related degree
- CPA preferred
- 6 years’ experience with corporate state and local direct and indirect taxes, in either a large public accounting environment, corporate environment, or both.
- Experience with retail industry highly preferred.
- Familiarity with MS Office software, including strong Excel computation skills,
- Ability to understand tax software workflow and learn applicable software applications used in the tax department is required.
