About the Role

WHYY is producing an ambitious multiplatform initiative to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence. This initiative will focus on crafting engaging historical narratives, making revolutionary history accessible to contemporary audiences across broadcast, digital, audio, and community platforms.

WHYY is seeking a dynamic and creative Storyteller Video Producer/Editor for a temporary full-time position. The ideal candidate is passionate about visual storytelling, with a keen eye for detail and a strong ability to craft compelling narratives. This individual will work closely with the television production team, producers, and other content creators to produce high-quality video content that engages and informs our audience across multiple platforms, as we prepare for the Semi-quincentennial year of 2026.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Storytelling: Conceptualize, research, and produce video stories that reflect the diverse communities and the historical significance of the Declaration of Independence.

  • Video Production: Shoot, edit, and produce video segments for broadcast, digital platforms, and social media, including WHYY’s YouTube and television broadcast.

  • Editing: Craft compelling narratives through skillful editing, utilizing tools such as Adobe Premiere, Avid, or similar software.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with WHYY producers, directors, and the digital team to ensure cohesive storytelling across all platforms, particularly focusing on the Declaration’s Journey project.

  • Content Strategy: Contribute to the development of WHYY’s video content strategy, identifying opportunities to expand our reach and impact, particularly in partnership with MOAR and NCC.

  • Deadline Management: Meet tight deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality across all produced content.

Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, and a portfolio of work that demonstrates their storytelling and video production capabilities. Please include links to video projects you have produced, edited, and/or shot.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in video production, editing, and storytelling, preferably in a documentary or media organization setting.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere, Avid, etc.), and familiarity with camera equipment, lighting, and sound.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Multimedia Skills: Experience with motion graphics, animation, or graphic design is a plus.

  • Public Media Experience: Previous experience working in public media, or a similar nonprofit environment is a plus.

*This is a temporary full-time position.

*All WHYY employees are required to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. Proof will be required upon hiring.
