Distinguishing Features of Work
The City of Wichita, Airport Authority is seeking a dedicated Custodial Worker to join our team at Wichita Airport. In this role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of our facilities. These employees perform janitorial services in and around public buildings, ensuring a welcoming environment for passengers, staff, and visitors. You will receive supervision and special instructions from a higher-level employee.
Bargaining unit: Service Employee's International (SEIU)
Current openings: Thursday - Monday 4:30 pm - 1:00 am. May be required to work overtime during emergency situations. Work locations, shifts, and days off will be determined at hire. Applicants for this position could be used to fill other vacancies.
Examples of Work Performed
- Operates and cares for motorized equipment such as buffers, scrub machines, and vacuum cleaners.
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, dusts, polishes, washes walls, windows, floors, and woodwork.
- Dusts, polishes, arranges and moves furniture and equipment.
- Cleans rest rooms and replenishes supplies.
- Removes rubbish and waste paper.
- Completion of work assignments may require the operation of a vehicle.

Requirements of Work
- Thorough knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
- Ability to push, pull and control equipment weighing up to 350 pounds, up and down narrow ramps while operating hand and/or foot controls
- Ability to climb a six foot ladder while carrying in one hand cleaning equipment weighing up to twenty pounds
- Ability to perform work in a confined area such as a rest room stall, small office or closet
- Ability to tolerate minor exposure to chemical fumes and contact used in custodial work or painting up to six hours a day
- Ability to bend, twist, turn, pull and stretch up to seven and one-half hours as required in cleaning and dusting windows, desks, counter tops, tables and legs, chairs and legs, door frames, urinals, stools, mirrors, stairs, overhead vents, light fixtures, and walls
- Ability to empty trash bags/containers weighing up to 40 pounds and lifting them up to 48 inches
- Ability to lift 40 pound bucket of water up to 36 inches high and/or move it up to six feet
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license
- An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace
Required Experience and Training
- Six months of experience performing routine janitorial and/or grounds keeping work.
- A valid Kansas driver's license
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal records check. May also be required to pass a KBI background investigation.

Pay: $15.48 - $16.26 per hour
