Job Title: Behavior Intervention Teacher
Position Function: Instructional teacher, to the Building Principal for assisting with the coordination of student¿s daily behavior regulation, relationship building and problem solving. Responsible for modeling SECD and Positive Behavior Supports to develop behavior experts in their building.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Assists the Principal with the development and revision of the school-wide improvement plan while working as part of the Leadership Team.
- Provides behavioral leadership and results based staff development focused on meeting the goals of the school-wide program and comprehensive school reform
- Modeling of SECD and positive behavior supports while working directly with students.
- Collaborating with teachers and building administrator on positive behavior supports put in place for individual students.
- Assists in identifying, acquiring and organizing available resources for students.
- Identifies and communicates to classroom teacher's effective behavioral strategies to meet the educational needs of the students
- Analyzes behavior data, identifies and implements strategies and resources to address individual student needs
- Collects data to monitor and report students' progress
- Collaborates with Child Study Team Members, and classroom teachers as part of Individual Problem Solving Process.
- Serves as a consultant to administration, teachers and families
- Performs other duties as assigned to insure the success of the school-wide behavior development program and increased student achievement
- Must be able to work directly with students
- Must collaborate with Teachers and Building Administration
Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Equipment: Must be able to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. As well as instructional technology (Smart-boards, clickers, etc.).
Travel: Limited travel may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Must be able to walk long distances
- Respond rapidly in emergency situations
- Stand for long periods of time
- Bend, twist, balance, stoop, climb steps, reach overhead, lift, push, pull up to 20 pounds or more with assistance
- Work five days a week, up to seven hours or more per day, or as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Background knowledge and experience in teaching elementary students
- Familiar with District standards and assessments
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Exhibit a professional manner to all customers
- Ability to prioritize and organize
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks
- Ability to change assignments on short notice
- Ability to perform under deadline and work in a calm and efficient manner
- Ability to work in a positive and cooperative manner with others in the workplace
Interrelations:
- Heavy contact with staff and students
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
- Must exhibit a professional manner and maintain a positive attitude with all students and colleagues
Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position
Qualification Profile:
- Kansas Elementary Teaching license, School Counseling License, or have a Social Work accreditation
- 3 to 5 years of teaching experience preferred
- Valid Kansas Driver's License required
- Bachelor's Degree required
