Job Title: Custodian 4 Head Relief
Position Function: The primary job of the Permanent Relief Custodian is to assist the custodial staff of a building in providing a clean, safe and sanitary environment for the students and staff. Perform a variety of tasks in custodial services for all buildings.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
Prepare building for day by- -
- Turn off alarm
- Safety check boiler
- Test fire alarms
- Turn on needed lights
- Turn off night lights
- Unlock doors
- Turn on water for urinals
- Check the building for vandalism
- Raise flag except during inclement weather

- Sweep floors
- Vacuum carpets
- Empty trash
- Dust all flat surfaces
- Police grounds
- Maintain and service restrooms
- Sweep steps and porch walks
- Mop and/or spot mop
- Clean entrance mats
- Set out and pick up mail and media materials
- Setting-up and clean-up breakfast and lunch
- Clean drinking fountains
- Maintain boiler, heating and air system and custodial room
- Clean gym, locker room and auditorium
- Clean equipment and replace supplies

- High dusting
- Carpet spotting
- Replace light bulbs as needed
- Check playground equipment for safety
- Clean whiteboards
- Receive and distribute supplies from truck
- Strip, seal and wax floors
- Wash walls and furniture
- Dust any furniture, woodwork, moldings, lockers, etc. as needed
- Clean carpets
- Clean door glass and any other glass in the building
- Snow Removal
- Summer Cleaning Schedule
- Check fire extinguishers
- Receive and distribute supplies
- Supervise, direct, instruct and train custodial personnel in routine and non-routine duties, with special emphasis on safety procedures
- Analyze and allocate workload equitably and provide clear instructions regarding operations and duties
- Prepare and maintain annual budget for custodial equipment and supplies
- Consult with Administrators relating to school activities and community use of building and arrange needed services
- Provide positive and consistent leadership for employees
- Respond to office and staff requests (including set-up of TV, DVD, audio systems, etc.)
- Input building maintenance needs into the work order system, work with maintenance personnel as needed and maintain adequate records.
- Inspect building(s) to insure quality services and discuss results with night custodians as needed
- Assist employees with their Employee Performance Appraisal as requested
- Maintain employee work schedules, vacation schedules, overtime, absence reports, time cards, etc. for payroll purposes
- Perform energy management functions as required
- Respond to emergencies in an appropriate manner
- Maintain classrooms as needed during day
- Prepare rooms for latchkey of required
- Maintain vending machines as needed
- Maintain recycling program if required
- Assist with food delivery if requested
- Assist in cafeteria during lunch if requested
- Assist with supervision of students if requested
Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor or by the building Administrators.
Equipment: The employee must demonstrate the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, and fax machine. Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower and hand tools.
Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Works in standard office and school building environments
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, or snow
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc.
- Must meet the required level on the Physical Capacity Profile (PCP), which will require you to be able to climb stairs and/or ladders, exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly, have the ability to squat, bend, stoop, reach, push and pull

- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service
Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position
Qualification Profile:
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Must pass Physical Capacity Test (PCP)
- Completion of Custodial Master Certificate is required
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Salary : $18 - $20
