Job Title : ESOL-Middle
Position Function : The Middle School ESOL teacher under the direction of their principal will provide tailored instruction of foundational skills in English to a diverse, multi-leveled, and multi-aged group of students who have a second language spoken in their home. The Middle School ESOL teacher is culturally proficient, self-motivated, demonstrates a passion for continuous learning, and has the ability to facilitate a successful learning community for English Language Learners (ELLs) and faculty and staff. Required audit documents will be completed and maintained for all ESOL students within the building. Academic progress and records will be updated and documented in order to identify areas of growth in the English Language Acquisition. Works with classroom teachers, parents, and students to provide and implement classroom educational needs and supports in order to meet students academic levels.
Essential Performance Responsibilities :
- Provides direct instruction and facilitates student learning using current best practices and strategies in one or more subjects such as English, mathematics, science, social studies, etc.
- Maintains required audit documents for all ESOL students within the building for the school district
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicate those objectives to students, parents, and peers as appropriate
- Creates effective lesson plans to guide daily instruction and / or prepare classroom instruction promoting students success in provided curriculum and on district, state and national assessments.
- Collaborates and communicates with staff to meet the educational needs of students
- Creates, administers, and grades tests / assessments to evaluate student progress
- Establishes and enforces rules and procedures which help to maintain order in the classroom to create a learning environment for all students
- Observes, evaluates, and prepares reports on the progress of students. Discusses students concerns and progress with parents and staff. Maintains district provided electronic gradebook.
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings, districts trainings, and teacher workshops
- Observes, enforces and is directed by the policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the school district
- Work with Special Education or classroom teacher to ensure appropriate modifications / accommodations are being implemented in the classroom
- Completes all required reports and assessments as identified by building principal or school district
- Provides supervision in common areas to support school and district mission and goals
- Ensure that co-teaching occurs within the classroom delivery model. This could include Paraprofessionals, SPED and or the classroom teachers within the building.
- Ability to provide professional development for building staff regarding ELL evidence based instructional strategies that benefit all learners.
Additional Duties : Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Equipment : This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259s guidelines for equipment use.
Travel : Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.
