Job Title: Secondary Principal
Position Function: Uses leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to empower and develop staff to create a culture of student and staff learning.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Includes all stakeholders that represent the school community in developing the vision, mission, and goals of the school that align with the overall mission and goals of the District
- Facilitates the collaborative development and implementation of the school improvement plan
- Uses data to monitor and adjust as necessary the action plan and goals of the school improvement plan
- Ensures all students are making academic progress by monitoring the instructional program
- Ensures instructional guidelines are in place and teachers are following the district adopted course and grade level standards and teachers are following the curriculum with fidelity
- Ensures that all students have access to the core curriculum and that teachers differentiate instruction and intervention based on student data
- Ensures that all students have access to a variety of student activities that support their leadership, physical, emotional, social and attitudinal growth
- Ensures students have access and are supported with services that support mental, physical, and emotional wellness for every student
- Evaluates all staff members for the purpose of improving student growth, identify professional learning needs, promoting teacher leadership, and making decisions
- Responsible for recruiting, screening, hiring, assigning, disciplining and dismissing school staff
- Promotes a culture of learning and collaboration by providing opportunities for staff to acquire, enhance, and refine the knowledge, skills, and commitment necessary to create and support high levels of learning for all students
- Uses data to develop differentiate professional learning to promote teacher leadership
- Evaluates data regarding beliefs, processes and structures within the school that support or amped rigor in teaching and learning
- Creates and sustains a culture of collaboration, trust, learning and high expectations for all
- Ensures the management of the organization, operations and resources for a safe efficient and effective learning environment
- Obtains allocates and aligns human, fiscal, and technological resources to meet the district and school goals
- Follows established timelines and guidelines for all of the elements required by federal, state and district policies
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary and assures due process for students when appropriate
- Ensures a safe learning environment by adhering to all crisis plans, school wide behavior plans and policies
Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and Executive Directors.
Equipment: The employee must demonstrate the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Works in standard office and school building environments
- Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities

- Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
- Ability to communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed

- Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building

Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors
- Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Superintendent to complete day to day tasks
- Works with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
- Understands and responds appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
- Interacts with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service
Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position
Qualification Profile:
- A current, valid Kansas Building Administration License required
- Experience as an Assistant Principal or Principal required
- Minimum 5 years’ teaching experience required
