What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Media Specialist position at Wicomico County Public Schools?
Under the general supervision of the Principal, to assist students, and teaching staff with an enriching library/media center environment with a wide range of reading and other educational materials; maintains library collection at school site; develops appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; and instructs students and others on the proper use of the library resources.
SALARY
Commensurate with certification and experience based on the Wicomico County Salary Scale for Teachers.
HOURS
190 contract days
FLSA: Exempt
Contract Unit: This position is part of the Unit I (Certificated) bargaining unit.
QUALIFICATIONS
Eligibility for the Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate with the proper endorsement. Certification as a School Library Media Specialist or eligibility for certification.
Strong knowledge of library principles, practices, and technologies, including library automation systems and digital resources.
Experience working in a school library or educational setting, with a focus on serving diverse student populations.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and administrators.
Passion for promoting literacy and fostering a love for reading among students.
Ability to adapt to changing educational trends and technologies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Collection Development: Manage the school library collection, including selecting, acquiring, and cataloging materials that align with the school district policy and the educational goals and interests of students and faculty.
Curriculum Integration: Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources and services into the curriculum, supporting student learning objectives across various subjects and grade levels.
Information Literacy Instruction: Provide instruction to students on information literacy skills, including research strategies, citation methods, and critical evaluation of information sources.
Technology Integration: Utilize technology to enhance library services and resources, including digital databases, e-books, and educational software.
Administrative Duties: Perform administrative tasks related to library operations, such as budget management, circulation services, and facilities maintenance.
