The Director of Public Works will be involved in directing the general operation of the Department of Public Works; advising and providing information to the County Executive and County Council regarding public works matters; performing other administrative duties as assigned. This role requires analytical thinking and extensive independent judgement.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements policy;
- Prepares and monitors the public works capitol and operating budgets and the cost-effective operation of all department functions, facilities, and equipment;
- Directs the general operation of the Department of Public Works, including the functions of engineering; facilities; environmental services; highways; utilities; and inspections, licenses and permits;
- Discusses public works matters with, and gives advice regarding them, to the County Executive; represents the administration before the County Council on public works issues, utility rate legislation, capital project fund transfers and other issues;
- Represents the County in meetings with other governmental agencies;
- Functions as Executive Secretary to the Board of Public Works;
- Supervises and is responsible for development of design standards, standards details and standard specifications for the County;
Requirements:
- Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university in engineering and ten years of increasingly responsible experience in engineering and public works administration, including a minimum of four years in a managerial position in public works.
- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and public works administration.
- Comprehensive knowledge of public administration, including budgeting.
- Thorough knowledge of supervisory and training principles and techniques.
- Ability to plan, coordinate and direct the work of others.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $115,532.00 - $144,414.00 per year
