Purchasing Manager

Description

This position reports to the COO.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      Administrative and Business Skills:

• Work with Senior Supply Chain Strategist for managing the negotiation of new and existing contracts for purchased goods and services including long-term agreements, consignment programs and outsourcing requirements
• Ability to participate in strategic sourcing activities to procure required goods and services
• Refine the SCM organization’s infrastructure incorporating policies, procedures and processes while ensuring they are maintained and adhered in accordance with overall company policies and guidelines
• Assists the supervisor with the establishment of annual goals/objectives, strategies, and tactics to drive managed results favorable to Wieland Designs
• Establish common processes, performance metrics, standards and a supplier quality program working with our Quality Manager.
• Work with Senior Supply Chain Strategist to rationalize the current supply base to maximize purchasing leverage and reduce risk
• Deliver annual savings targets through well-developed purchasing strategies
• Responsible for the maintenance of ISO-related documentation relevant to the procurement function
• Work with Senior Supply Chain Strategist for new product development purchasing requirements

      Technical Skills:

• Proactively contacts suppliers to facilitate and assist in the resolution of production, design, quality, and/or delivery problems; determine status of orders
• Develop and implement communication methods to provide information to assist our supply chain partners success
• Ability to analyze demand data, create purchasing strategies and implement into ERP system such as min/max, min on hand, safety stock, Kanban, MOQ, JIT to support overall company requirements  
• Execute the effort of continually ordering and receiving all parts as order points are reached and safety stocks are used in coordination with the needs of the internal customers.
• Monitor material inventories, track progress of production schedules, and review factors that affect inventory. Maintain inventory dollars without affecting on-time delivery.

• Thorough understanding of Engineering processes and services.

• Develop and maintain effective, professional relationships with suppliers while enforcing the company Supplier Business Practices policy
• Contribute to the maintenance and development of supplier relationships
• Coach, develop and direct staff consistent with company philosophies
• Participate in NPD project update meetings as required

Physical demands:

• Must have good visual ability to determine colors, shapes, and size of materials.
• Must be able to lift up to 10 – 40 pounds consistently.
• Regular attendance.

Work environment:

• Consistent low noise level from production tools and equipment. 
• Small airborne dust particles are created from handling cloth fabrics.

Mental demands:

• Must be able to process procedures on the computer.
• Must have the mental ability to perform basic math functions.
• Must have the mental ability to communicate, train others, and problem-solve with accuracy in verbal and written formats.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree, with additional APICS certification or similar coursework completed
• 5 – 10 years’ experience in sourcing, purchasing and supply chain management in an ERP/MRP - based manufacturing environment
• In depth knowledge of current supply chain management and manufacturing processes and systems
• Track record of driving operational excellence and best practices across the supply chain organization
• Solid negotiation, financial and analytical skills
• Experience in sourcing of purchased goods and services needed for manufacturing operations
• Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and in an ERP environment
• Engaging leadership style, with track record of mentoring and developing teams
• Effective communicator with ability to be clear and concise, with active listening skills and to synthesize information
