Responsibilities
- Process and submit medical billing claims to insurance companies and patients.
- Utilize ICD-10, ICD-9, and DRG coding systems to ensure accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures.
- Review patient records for accuracy and completeness before billing.
- Manage accounts receivable by following up on unpaid claims and resolving discrepancies.
- Communicate with insurance companies to clarify billing issues and obtain payment status.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and insurance regulations.
- Prepare and send out patient statements, addressing any inquiries regarding billing.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to ensure smooth operations related to billing processes.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing or a related field within a medical office setting.
- Strong knowledge of medical coding systems including ICD-10, ICD-9, DRG, and medical terminology.
- Familiarity with medical collection processes and handling of accounts receivable.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers.
