Roles & Responsibilities
Advanced Hardware Design & Architecture:
- Leads the design of complex boards or subsystems (multi-layer PCBs, high-speed interfaces, advanced power management).
- To ensure robust designs, perform signal integrity analysis, power integrity checks, and thermal considerations.
- Works closely with Firmware, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, and Manufacturing and Test Engineering teams to ensure seamless hardware integration and resolve cross-disciplinary issues.
- Integrates design-for-manufacturability and design-for-test considerations (e.g., component spacing, test points, production yields).
- Comfortable using SPICE (Frequency Sweeps, Parameter Sweeps, Thermal Profiles) simulation tools to mitigate potential issues before creating boards.
- Designs with safety in mind and understands SPF & LPF (Preferred)
- Guides compliance planning (EMC, EMI, ESD) and assists in official certification testing (CE, RE, ESD etc.).
- Creates comprehensive design documents and test plans from functional specifications and product requirements supports documentation for regulatory compliance
- Contribute to the development of detailed interface control documents
- Communicates technical topics effectively to non-hardware stakeholders, including project managers and product owners.
- Communicate the status of assigned work including current progress, estimated time to completion, risks, and any required software, equipment, tools, etc. necessary to accomplish assigned work.
- Contribute to development and maintenance of statements of work, budgets, schedules, and risk assessments.
- Develop work packages for PCB subcontractors and support onsite supplier quality audits and interface with subcontractors as required.
- Mentors junior and mid-level engineers.
- Supports the development of team members by providing constructive technical feedback.
- Demonstrates the ability to receive and act on constructive feedback.
- Fosters a collaborative environment, helping to raise the technical skill of the team.
- Demonstrates interpersonal tact when working with others.
- Understands that it is critical to act as a united team during external meetings and demonstrates that understanding.
- Conducts thorough design reviews, emphasizing best practices for robust design.
- May lead small project teams, coordinating tasks and deliverables to meet deadlines.
- Performs other duties as directed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
- 5 years of experience in an electrical engineering role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be proficient in embedded design utilizing highly efficient components for battery powered devices.
- Must be proficient in schematic capture software, understanding of Altium a plus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Microsoft 365, Teams).
- Proficiency in using board management and defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, GIT)
- Experience with military standards, specifically MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-810.
- Experience with laser systems, night vision/imaging systems, or target location systems.
- Regular on-site attendance is a necessary function of this position.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally, for handling parts and prototypes.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to perform physical tests and handle tools/equipment used for prototyping
