JOB SUMMARY:
The aquatic maintenance technician is responsible for the daily operations of the Water parks at Wilderness at the Smokies. This includes, but is not limited to: water testing, inspections, heating/ventilation, preventative maintenance and repair of rides, grounds, and buildings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Problem-solving and deductive-reasoning skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and operating procedures/instructions.
Proficiency in English language is required in order to effectively communicate with guests/associates.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions
and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to recognize problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Use common deductive reasoning skills proficiently.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Willingness to perform any required task within associate’s capabilities in order to effectively meet the needs of the company.
Ability to get along well with others
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have a valid Driver’s License and be insurable by the company’s insurance and maintain it.
Prefered- current Certified Pool Operator certificate or current Aquatic Facilities Operator certificate

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to wet and or humid conditions; outside weather conditions and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
While performing the duties of this job, the associate will regularly use ladders and occasionally operate or work from a lift above the ground.

- Inspecting each ride and attractions before opening.
- Water test each pool system and record results; check and record slide pressures, pool water temperatures and indoor water park air temperature/humidity.
- Responsible for adding dry chemicals to pool systems, as needed, to maintain water balance.
- Backwash filter systems as needed; clean strainer baskets and keep work area clean and safe.
- Carry out rust prevention practices including, but not limited to: painting, general maintenance, mechanics, pneumatics, electrical and plumbing.
- Ability to perform common preventive maintenance.
- Repairs tubes, rafts, flow boards and body boards.
- Follow protocols set by OSHA, EPA, and Wilderness at the Smokies.
- Wear proper personal protective equipment while working with or around chemicals.
- Responsible for cleaning acid and chlorine feed lines and injectors, as needed.
- Responds to radio calls regarding problems in the water parks within a reasonable amount of time – ability to prioritize according to urgency, when necessary.
- Keep an open line of communication between aquatic maintenance and the Aquatic Management/Supervisory staff.
- All other duties as assigned by management.
