Job Posting:
Wildland Trekking LLC. is looking to hire a dedicated Day Hike Guide to run hikes in Acadia National Park summer 2025. Ideal candidates for Day Hike Guide positions will have personal and professional day hiking or other experience hiking and/or leading groups of all ages. Day hike trips with Wildland Trekking range from 5-11 hours with mileages that range from 5-10 miles in a day. Day hikes vary in difficulty and solitude levels. Day Hike Guides prepare lunch on trail in all weather, manage all aspects of the day’s trip with guests, including pre hike meeting coordination. Day Hike Guides are responsible for interpretive information, risk management, and guest satisfaction.
We are looking for a self-directed, independent, motivated industry professional who has part time availability (or greater). Scheduling Day Hikes can be worked around another job or obligations within our scheduling systems.
Job Description:
Position: Day Hike Guide
Reports To: Program Manager

Working Conditions: This job is based in Acadia National Park and will require meeting guests at various trailhead locations in a personal vehicle. No guest transportation required. Storing a small amount of gear for the season (day packs, trekking poles, medical kit, etc.) at a safe and secure personal residence or similar is needed.
Job Objective: Guide day hike trips to enhance the lives of our guests by doing everything possible to lead and facilitate a safe, fun, positive, unforgettable outdoor adventure experience while fostering a respect and appreciation for the special places we travel in. Travel is required for training in June in Vermont and to return gear post season.
Required Qualifications:
- 21 years or older, as required by insurance to drive;
- Must be available to attend and successfully complete training (dates and details depend on location);
- Must be able to pass a background check, motor vehicle record check, and a drug test (CA only);
- Must be able to obtain a Backcountry Food Handlers Certification;
- Must hold a current WFA/ WFR or Wilderness EMT or be willing to obtain certification before training start date;
- Ability and willingness to hike up to 15 miles in a day with a weighted pack of up to 35 lbs;
- Must have strong leadership, teaching/interpretation, and communication skills;
Preferred Qualifications:
- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: At least 1-2 years of professional guiding experience (backpacking, mountaineering, outdoor education, rafting…etc.) and/or training and professional experience in outdoor education (i.e. NOLS, Outward Bound, degree in Outdoor Education or related field, Wilderness Therapy, other Adventure Travel companies, etc).
- Excellent verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills;
- Value and embody integrity, sense of ownership and dedication to customer satisfaction
- Strong background in geology, ecology, biology, outdoor recreation…etc. and/or extensive knowledge of the Parks in which we operate;
- Excellent outdoor cooking skills and ability to create a fantastic menu;
- Creativity and flexibility to make sure every trip exceeds your guests’ expectations;
- A love of hiking and America’s wild lands and national parks;
- Enthusiastic about working for The Wildland Trekking Company and have a passion for outdoor adventure;
- Leave No Trace certification;
- Expertise in Acadia National Park;
- Speak and write English fluently; Fluent in French and/or German, Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese a plus.

Hourly compensation. Expected volume is 1-4 day hikes per week paid at $17.75/hour. Overtime after 40 hours in a week.
