Position Summary

The Associate Manager, Government & Community Affairs serves in a project management capacity to organize events, support VIP tours, government application and report submissions, communication collateral and data management to advance the goals of the Government & Community Affairs Department which is responsible for all U.S.-based government relations, NYC-based community relations, public policy development and campaign advocacy. The Department is responsible for protecting and growing New York City, New York State, and U.S. Government funding streams that provide over $100 million in annual WCS operating, programmatic and capital support. To advance its goals, this position works closely with the Department’s lobbyists, across Public Affairs and frequently with Business Services and Education. Strong project management, communication/collaboration, and attention to detail are all essential qualities contributing to success in this role.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Coordinate in-park community events, press events, and other internal and external Public Affairs events, working closely with Senior Manager, Public Affairs
  • Organize and support VIP tours at all 5 WCS locations in New York City
  • Make preparations for all onsite and offsite community engagement
  • Oversee the Community Access Program
  • Oversee contributions to and review of various reports and applications, department monthly updates and newsletters, invitations, and various contact lists
  • Update, assemble and distribute internal and external communications and materials such as briefing folders, factsheets, letters, presentations, email newsletter, and email design
  • Oversee contacts database in Salesforce
  • Oversee and maintain inventory of promotional items
  • Set up meetings and record meeting minutes as needed
  • Work on initiatives at the discretion of the EVP, VP and ED

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in political science, communications or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience
  • Strong collaborative project management and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines with strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills (Spanish is a plus)
  • Ability to work out of all five parks on a regular basis
  • Availability for after-hours and weekend events required
  • Knowledge of Salesforce and Constant Contact a plus
  • Strong interest in WCS mission

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands include but are not limited to use of a Keyboard, 10-key, Mouse, and Telephone Use, Handwriting, Sitting, Standing, Crouching, Kneeling, Bending, Walking, Stair Climbing, minimal Driving, and Lifting up to 50lbs.

Workplace Conditions and Environment

  • The workplace conditions and environment of the role include working indoors, closely with others, and/or alone, exposure to excess noise, operate power tools and equipment and use sharp tools and equipment
