As a Summer Camp Apprentice, you will assist camp staff in providing a safe, fun, and educational summer camp experience for children. This position is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in developing leadership skills, gaining experience in outdoor activities, and working with children in a camp setting. The apprentice will receive mentorship and training while helping to create a positive and supportive camp environment. Our Summer Camp Apprentice Program is offered in collaboration with ProX, a regional collaborative that pairs Kansas City students with area businesses for summer work projects, and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

Job Responsibilities:
- Jump In and Learn! Get hands-on with everything that makes camp run smoothly – from camp management and counseling to helping in the kitchen and keeping the grounds in tip-top shape!
- Get Active! Join in on awesome daily activities like epic group games, team challenges, nature hikes, fishing adventures, STEM experiments, and tons of outdoor and indoor fun.

- Safety First! Be on the lookout to keep camp safe and sound. Follow and promote camp safety rules so everyone has a blast, worry-free!
- Support the Campers! Be the cheerleader every camper needs – encourage, empower, and inspire them to be their best selves.
- Lead by Example! Show the campers how it’s done! Be a role model for good camp vibes, setting a positive example in everything you do.
Qualifications:
- Be between the ages of 15 and 17 years old.
- Have completed at least one season in the Wildwood Leadership Program or have similar experience.
- Bring excitement and energy to the camp environment!
- Keep a positive, mature attitude, even when things get busy.
- Be observant and flexible when it comes to understanding and supporting camper behaviors.
- Work well with other camp staff and communicate effectively as part of the team.
- Be adaptable and open to change as things shift throughout the camp week.
- Comfortable spending lots of time outside, no matter the weather – rain or shine!
- Able to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) when needed.
Camp and Work Schedule:
Summer Camp Apprentices register and participate as campers including arrival at camp on Monday morning and departure on Friday afternoon using your choice of transportation. During the day, Summer Camp Apprentices spend up to 8 hours in a work environment complete with scheduled breaks and lunch. Summer Camp Apprentices may participate in two summer sessions.
