What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at Wildwood Outdoor Education Center?
Job Responsibilities : Supervise and ensure the safety of campers during daily activities and overnight stays.Lead and participate in camp activities such as hiking, swimming, target sports, arts and crafts, fishing, and team-building exercises.Encourage positive social interactions, conflict resolution, and teamwork among campers.Foster a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment where all campers feel valued and confident.Provide guidance and mentorship to campers, helping them develop new skills and grow in their personal abilities.Assist with morning and evening routines, mealtimes, clean-up, and other camp duties as needed.Communicate with fellow counselors and camp leadership to ensure a seamless camp experience.Ensure camp rules and policies are followed, maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all.Be a positive role model for campers and fellow staff members.Qualifications : Must be at least 17 years old.Previous experience working with children in a camp, recreational, or educational setting is preferred but not required.Enthusiastic, patient, adaptable, and passionate about working with kids in the outdoors.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with children and work as part of a team.Ability to handle group dynamics and resolve conflicts in a calm and positive manner.CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.Training and / or experience in mental health, crisis response, and trauma-informed care are a plus as Wildwood serves a high percentage of low-income youth.Comfortable spending extended time outdoors in varying weather conditions.Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs.).Ability to pass a background check.Why Join Wildwood?Enjoy the summer outdoors and make a difference in the lives of children.Work with a dynamic and supportive team in a fun and energetic camp environment.Gain valuable experience in leadership, outdoor education, and teamwork.Opportunity for personal and professional growth in a positive and rewarding atmosphere.Competitive pay, housing, meals, and a camp t-shirt are provided.Summer Work Schedule : 5 p.m. on Sunday through 5 p.m. on Friday each week from late May 2025 through early August 2025.
