Requirements
Education/Experience:
- Associate's degree in Applied Science in Nursing (A. A.) or equivalent from a regionally accredited two-year college or nursing school.
- Experience at a school, working with children and/or experience working with populations with disabilities strongly preferred
- NYS License as a Registered Professional Nurse

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. (Other duties may be assigned)
- Plans school health program, in cooperation with senior nurse and school administrative personnel.
- Facilitates learning through the promotion of wellness.
- Participates in health assessments and reviews findings to evaluate health status of students and progress of program.
- Notifies families when students need physical examinations and assists in locating health resources
- May instruct classes in subjects such as childcare and first aid and implements nursing policies to meet emergencies.
- Cooperates with school personnel in identifying and meeting social, emotional, and physical needs of special education school children.
- Administers first aid, and maintains health records of students.
- Counsels students in good health habits.
- Assists in ordering first aid equipment and supplies.
- Assists in reviewing nursing policies and procedures with the Nurse Supervisor.
- Gathers medical information from health professionals treating students.
- Serves as a medical resource for students, staff and families.
- Compiles cumulative health records on students.
- Writes individualized Health Care Plans for students
Other Requirements
- A valid New York State Driver’s License and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.
- Required to complete, pass, and use CALM training, provided by the school, which includes de-escalation strategies and approved protective holds and movements for students.
