Middle or Upper School Mandarin Teacher

Wildwood School is an urban, coed, college-preparatory, K-12 school in West Los Angeles recognized for its innovative practices, progressive pedagogy, and commitment to multicultural programming. Wildwood School is currently seeking a dynamic educator who is interested in and responsive to an evolving and innovative educational environment. Wildwood teachers are active participants in the life of the school and are life-long learners in their craft.

Our current opening for a middle or upper school Mandarin teacher calls for an educator interested and experienced in teaching the language and culture of Mandarin Chinese to students in grades 6-12, though the position would be only for grades 6-9 or 10-12.

Core duties of Wildwood teachers include:

• Collaborating with colleagues to design instructional materials, projects, and assessments
• Differentiating instruction to meet the needs of a range of learners
• Assessing student mastery of course standards
• Utilizing a variety of assessment methods to inform instruction
• Providing comprehensive feedback in narrative form twice a year
• Communicating proactively and consistently with students and families regarding student growth and development

Wildwood teachers are active participants in the life of the school beyond their classrooms. Additional responsibilities of Wildwood teachers are to:

• Serve as an advisor, executing Wildwood’s advisory curriculum with an emphasis on social-emotional learning, multicultural skill building, and academic oversight 
• Contribute to the work of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
• Contribute to the work of school committees, task forces, and the Admissions Office 
• Attend overnight retreats and evening/weekend student events throughout the year
• Provide supervision for lunch, recess, and passing periods

Ideal candidates have

·         Three years of relevant teaching experience and curriculum development

·         Bachelor's degree or higher in Mandarin or Education, with a graduate degree preferred

·         Full professional proficiency or native or bilingual proficiency in Mandarin

·         Training, demonstrated professional development, or certification in teaching and learning

·         Experience facilitating or co-facilitating an advisory group

·         Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and diversity, equity, and inclusion work.

Salary Range: $69,000 - $130,000 The higher end of the range is reserved for those with decades of experience and/or advanced degrees.
