Primary Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate English courses, including pre-requisite English and writing lab courses, to support students’ development in reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.
- Utilize engaging teaching methods, technology-enhanced learning tools, and active learning strategies to effectively reach diverse student populations.
- Provide timely feedback on student writing assignments, essays, and research papers to support academic progress and improvement.
- Prepare course materials, syllabi, assignments, and assessments that align with departmental learning objectives and uphold standards of best practice in English instruction.
- Integrate writing process strategies, grammar instruction, and rhetorical principles to strengthen students’ proficiency in writing and communication.
- Support students through individualized feedback and mentoring, adapting to varied learning needs, language backgrounds, and writing abilities.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive classroom environment through workshops, study groups, and peer review sessions.
- Collaborate with campus support services, such as tutoring centers and academic advising, to provide comprehensive academic support for students.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in English, Applied Linguistics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience teaching English composition, writing-intensive, or developmental writing courses at the college or university level.
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills for effective communication with students and colleagues.
- An understanding of and commitment to the mission of HBCUs and liberal arts education.
