Job Summary
The Patient Sitter is responsible for providing continuous observation and maintaining a safe environment for assigned patients under the direction of an RN. This role ensures the safety and well-being of patients by adhering to infection control practices, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining patient privacy and dignity. The Patient Sitter communicates effectively with the RN and other members of the healthcare team to ensure high-quality care and patient safety.
Essential Functions
- Observes and monitors assigned patients to ensure safety, following hospital policies and procedures.
- Complies with patient confidentiality standards and organizational policies at all times.
- Maintains infection control precautions and uses PPE properly in compliance with facility guidelines.
- Ensures proper hand hygiene techniques are followed consistently.
- Safely handles bio-hazardous waste and chemicals per facility policies.
- Protects patient privacy, respect, and dignity during care activities.
- Completed delated duties accurately and in a timely manner as directed by the RN.
- Reports safety hazards, unusual behaviors, or malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate personnel.
- Adheres to safety policies, procedures, and the AIDET philosophy of the facility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or GED required
- 0-1 years of experience as a patient sitter or similar role in a healthcare setting required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to maintain focus and provide continuous observation for extended periods.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, family, and staff.
- Knowledge of basic infection control practices and safety procedures.
- Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations and respond appropriately to patient needs or emergencies.
Licenses and Certifications
- BCLS - Basic Life Support obtained within 30 days of hire required
