Essential Duties Summary
Duties include:
- Assists the Program Director in ensuring the Dental Hygiene program meets standards established by the College and the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) through planning, implementing, and continuously evaluating program outcomes.
- Plan, create, and maintain a classroom environment conducive to student learning.
- Teaches classes as assigned by the Program Director of Dental Hygiene.
- Updates policies and procedures in accordance with standards.
- Participates in the program admission process; advises prospective and current students of program requirements, policies, and academic processes.
- Collaborates with the Program Director in the creation of syllabi; the establishment of objectives, competencies, and assessments; and the selection of textbooks, periodicals, and other resources.
- Maintains a high level of currency in the discipline and incorporates innovative and creative instructional techniques in the classroom. Implements new technologies available to dental hygiene education.
- Oversees the work of adjunct faculty in didactic/laboratory/clinical settings.
- Familiar with the North Carolina Community College System Combined Course Library and Curriculum Standards and keeping the Wilkes Community College catalog and website information current and accurate.
- Recommends appropriate and current equipment, performs equipment inventories, maintains equipment in good working condition, and takes necessary steps to ensure student safety around equipment.
- Assists Program Director Dental Hygiene with budget preparation and monitoring.
- Assists Program Director Dental Hygiene in developing short- and long-range planning strategies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Full-time faculty of an associate degree program must have earned at least a baccalaureate or higher degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
In addition to the degree, the full-time faculty must have the following:
- hold a valid RDH credential, current state license, and must be graduates of programs accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation
- current knowledge of the specific subjects they are teaching
- documented background in current educational methodology concepts consistent with teaching assignments.
- have professional experience in clinical practice either as a Dental Hygienist or working with a Dental Hygienist
- evidence of faculty calibration for clinical evaluation

Salary Range: $50,000 to $60,000 (10 months) based on education and experience in accordance with the college salary plan.
