The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for the position of County Social Services Director. This position serves as the executive officer of the Department of Social Services and reports to the County Manager and the Wilkes County Board of Commissioners. As agency director this employee directs other managers/supervisors, professional, paraprofessional, and support staff in the delivery of agency services and provides leadership and direction for program development, establishing program standards and monitoring and evaluating quality of service delivery systems while ensuring compliance and adherence to all relevant Federal and State laws, regulations and statutes. The Director manages a staff of 131 employees and is responsible for administering a total budget of approximately $17.1 million. This employee is responsible for budget planning/preparation and assessment of program needs. The position is also responsible for maintaining direct involvement in conflict/complaint resolution, staffing and personnel issues and serves as the principle spokesperson for the agency relative to program issues. Work also involves representing the agency with government officials, other human services providers, and a variety of advocacy groups to influence the decision-making process in order to insure adequate resources for program maintenance and expansion and the delivery of comprehensive services.
