What are the responsibilities and job description for the Upward Bound Instructor, Art History & Studio Art position at Wilkes University?
Wilkes University invites applicants for an open Art History & Studio Art high school enrichment teaching position in the Upward Bound Program for the summer session. Upward Bound is a federally funded Trio Program, which provides support to participants in their preparation for college and ultimately, in their higher education pursuits.
The successful candidate is responsible for implementing the enrichment component of the Program by introducing fundamental concepts and mediums to a small group of high school level students. The instructor will introduce key historical periods and movements, guiding students through the exploration of significant artists, styles, and cultural contexts. Following each historical unit, students will engage in studio activities to create their own works inspired by the period they studied, building practical skills and a deeper understanding of art creation. Students will develop a portfolio of their artwork, which will be displayed at the end of the summer session. A Bachelor's degree in Art and/or a related field is required. Experience working with high school students or in a college-preparatory program is preferred.
Please note that this is only a part-time/temporary position with a competitive hourly wage. Dates run from June 23rd through July 31st and classes are held throughout the week, Mondays and Wednesdays (1:15P.M. - 2:30P.M.).
