Job Summary:
The District Safety-Security Coordinator will oversee, coordinate, and implement comprehensive safety and security programs throughout the district, ensuring compliance with Pennsylvania's Act 55 of 2022 and Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) requirements. This individual will collaborate with school administrators, staff, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to create and maintain a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety and Security Compliance:
Ensure district-wide compliance with all local, state, and federal safety and security laws, including Act 55, PDE requirements, and any additional safety-related policies.
- Crisis Management Planning:
Develop, implement, and continually update the district's emergency management and crisis response plans. Coordinate regular safety drills, including fire, lockdown, and evacuation drills in alignment with state-mandated guidelines.
- Collaboration with Local Agencies:
Serve as the district's liaison with local law enforcement, emergency responders, and community safety organizations. Facilitate joint training programs, crisis simulations, and debriefings as needed.
- Safety Training for Staff and Students:
Provide leadership in developing and delivering safety training programs for district staff and students, covering topics such as threat assessment, situational awareness, bullying prevention, and conflict resolution.
- Threat Assessment and Prevention:
Oversee and lead the district’s threat assessment team as outlined by Act 55. Coordinate interventions for at-risk individuals and monitor the effectiveness of security measures in preventing school-based violence.
- Security Audits and Risk Assessments:
Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments for all district buildings and facilities. Identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements or corrective measures to mitigate risks.
- School Safety Coordinator for Act 44 Compliance (Physical School Safety Assessment and Requirements):
Ensure that district policies meet the requirements of Act 44, working closely with school principals to implement recommended physical security enhancements, behavioral threat assessments, and other safety protocols.
- Incident Reporting and Investigations:
Manage safety and security-related incidents, ensuring timely reporting, documentation, and investigation. Work with district administrators and local authorities to resolve safety issues and mitigate future occurrences.
- Student Support and Safe Learning Environment:
Collaborate with counseling services and student support teams to promote mental health, anti-bullying initiatives, and other programs that foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Budget Management:
Manage safety and security budgets, including grants and state funding related to school safety initiatives. Oversee procurement of safety equipment, technology, and supplies.
- Data Collection and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, security measures, and emergency drills. Provide regular reports to the superintendent, school board, and PDE as required by Act 55.
- Security Guard
Serve as a security guard in school buildings.
- Other Duties As Assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred in education, criminal justice, emergency management, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in school safety, law enforcement, or emergency management, with a deep understanding of school security practices.
- Knowledge of Pennsylvania’s Act 55, Act 44, and other relevant state and federal safety regulations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, including school personnel, students, law enforcement, and the community.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, developing crisis management plans, and leading safety training sessions.
- Proficiency with security technologies and surveillance systems is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position with potential on-call duties during emergencies.
- Regular travel between district schools and facilities as needed.
- Must be able to respond promptly to district safety and security concerns.
Salary and Benefits:
Approximately $48,000-$58,000
