Position Summary: Interstate Earthworks is looking for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform routine repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, including diagnosing, adjusting, or repairing mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
- Diagnoses and repairs vehicles and equipment with supervision as needed.
- Performs inspections, preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment, and minor
component replacement as applicable. - Prepares and maintains records and reports accurately.
- Dismantles and reassembles heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
- Operates and inspects machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
- Tests mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper
performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications. - Cleans, lubricates, and performs other routine maintenance work on equipment, vehicles, components, systems, and equipment of the plant.
- Reads and understands operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Tests machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Fit bearings to adjust or repair mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic
equipment. - Diagnoses faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
- Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges. Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Heavy Equipment Mechanic experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Recognizes confidential information and maintains it in accordance with standard procedures.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Strong service and customer relation skills.
- Able to read, write and speak English.
- Able to work under stressful conditions at times.
- Possess a strong work ethic, integrity, and honesty.
- Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships and maintain them over time.
- Dependable, reliable, and capable of fulfilling responsibilities.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must be capable of working independently with little or no supervision and as a member of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Diesel Technology or Automotive/ Diesel Diploma, preferred.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures, preferred.
- CDL license, preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods sitting in a trailer cab or pilot’s cabin for long periods of time.
- Ability to maintain single task focus and situational awareness.
- Long term physical fitness for duty to maintain all licenses and certifications of fitness as required by regulatory agencies and licensing entities (DMV, FAA, DOT, et cetera).
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Determine the distance between objects.
- React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
- Move two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place.
