Position Summary: The Human Resources Specialist reports to the Director of Human Resources and may perform broad professional HR activities, which may include implementing of services, policies, and programs through Human Resources staff. Also, may assist with recruiting efforts and coordinating new employee orientation, performance management, background check process, first level complaint investigation, status change requests and assisting and advising company managers on various HR issues.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
- Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
- Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; recognition, and morale; and training and development.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Participates as a witness in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations when required.
- Recommends changes to policies to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations where needed.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Assists with administration and compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training.
- Assists with other administrative data, duties, and tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- At least one year of human resource management experience preferred.
- SHRM-CP a plus
Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Positions self to install equipment, including under desks.
- Moves throughout the building to access files.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
- Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
