Position Summary: The Maintenance Planner is responsible for coordinating equipment maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance (PM). This role schedules and organizes tasks, manages resources and safety requirements, collaborates with internal teams and vendors, and ensures accurate maintenance tracking and reporting. The Maintenance Planner optimizes equipment reliability and supports operational efficiency.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
- Works closely with the Plant Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor, and Inventory Control Specialist to coordinate and schedule equipment repairs and preventive maintenance (PM) during normal operation, planned shutdowns, and outages.
- Plans work details, including materials, drawings, work directions, bill of materials, safety requirements, vendor documents/materials, crafts, and the number of maintenance personnel needed to complete jobs. Estimates time and cost to complete repairs and projects.
- Coordinates with contractors, vendors, and Carbo personnel to ensure required equipment inspections, PMs, and other activities are completed, such as for boilers, fire protection, air compressors, fall protection, hoists, generators, electrical PPE, etc.
- Possesses mechanical and electrical experience and knowledge to provide guidance to Maintenance Techs and contractors on proper methods to complete repairs and improvements to plant equipment.
- Obtains quotes and provides requisitions for materials, parts, and services needed.
- Coordinates, schedules, and reviews the Preventive Maintenance program. Originates and processes work orders for PMs and findings from PM inspections that require further attention.
- Maintains, reviews, and measures a backlog for non-routine maintenance work orders. Reviews, verifies, and enters data into Maximo for all completed work orders.
- Posts pertinent data from completed work orders to equipment records and cost distribution records. Prepares management reports with this data and supplies data to others for reporting.
- Provides backup support to the Maintenance Supervisor as needed.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts including nights & weekends if the need arises.
- Proficient with Microsoft Programs Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience Maximo or other Maintenance & Asset Management Systems.
- Experience with SAP is a plus.
- Electrical and Mechanical industrial maintenance work experience is required.
Working Conditions:
- Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
- The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
- Prolonged periods of sitting on a forklift or other warehouse equipment.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
- Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing protection, and hard hats when needed.
- Able to work under stressful conditions at times.
- React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
- Must be able to move and lift to 40-pound wooden skid or pallet.
- Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
- Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
