Scope of Work:
The Distribution Engineer will collaborate with project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on various overhead and underground utility distribution projects overhead and underground utility design projects that focus on circuits up to 34kV. The engineer will lead small teams of junior engineers and designers to complete projects and report their progress regularly to the director of engineering. The Distribution Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical distribution plans according to budget constraints, design factors and client needs
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Complete and arranges distribution design packages under minimal supervision
- Prepare bills of material for all design projects
- Prepare construction sketches in various software interfaces such as utility GIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation
- Prepare drawings for permit submittals
- Calculations such as transformer loading, cable pulling, and secondary voltage drop
- Conduct pole loading analysis using software such as Poleforeman, SPIDAcalc, O-Calc, PLS-CADD
- Lead smaller projects under guidance of engineering director
- Submit and manage utility permits
- Prepare proposals including information such as scope of work, schedule, and budget
- Communicating project progress to key stakeholders
- Conduct capacity planning functions such as producing load flows for various types of planning projects (distribution automation, voltage optimization, distributed energy resources).
- Perform QA/QC reviews of design packages and field data
- Maintain correspondence with clients and other external key stakeholders on a regular basis
- Provide mentorship to junior team members
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of Will Group’s internal quality management system
- Provide training and guidance to the project team members.
- Ensure quality assurance and maintain technical coherence throughout the project lifecycle.
- Complies with established company work rules, policies, and procedures.
- Actively engages with other members of the company to continuously strive to improve processes, create efficiencies, reduce costs, and increase profitability.
- Cooperatively takes on other duties, roles, or responsibilities, as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of overhead and underground distribution systems for systems up to 34kV
- Experience with analysis of topographic surveys and relocation plans from departments of transportation and other agencies
- Knowledge of easement and permit acquisition
- Experience and proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or at least one utility GIS
- Experience and proficiency in at least one utility asset and/or work management system
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
- Ability to multitask effectively.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university
- Minimum 4 years of experience in electrical distribution engineering
- EIT certification
- Strong knowledge of electrical distribution power flow.
- Strong computer skills with MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
- Proficiency in distribution design software and GIS to aid in design.
- Strong knowledge regarding easements, right-of-way, and permitting for distribution projects.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
- Lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to access various departments of a given location.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to occasionally travel to job sites.
Base Salary Range: $95,000 - $110,000 annually commensurate with experience.
