Job Description
General Statement Of Duties: Monitors and leads program participants, providing historical interpretation in a variety of activities; does related work as required.
Distinguishing Features Of The Class: An employee in this classification is responsible for presenting historical/cultural information to program participants and special events. Work is performed under the supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, with on-site direction from a department Program Leader. Supervision is not a responsibility of positions in this classification.
Examples Of Duties Performed:

- Leads and assists participants in age-appropriate historical and educational activities.
- Develops and participates in interpretive program activities and special events.
- Prepares site, sets up supplies and/or equipment for scheduled activities, and performs necessary clean up as assigned by the Program Leader.
- Interprets historical information and conducts guided tours for the public.
- Researches and retains knowledge of historical and cultural curriculum as it relates to the program.
- Works closely with Program Leader in a team environment, which requires participatory decision-making and cooperative interaction among employees.
- Assists in keeping the program site clean; practices safe and responsible use of all equipment.
- Administers first aid as necessary.
- Reports vandalism or suspicious behavior to Program Leader or the Recreation Supervisor.
- Follows all safety rules and procedures.
- Reports cases of suspected child abuse to supervisor, and contacts Services to Children and Families as necessary.
- Performs additional duties as required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge: Some knowledge of behavior management of children; some knowledge of history and cultures preferred; understanding of historical program interpretation.
Skills: Administration of basic first aid and CPR.
Abilities: Work successfully with children, parents, teachers, and the general public; understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Experience And Training: High school graduation or equivalency, and one year of experience working with children; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above-described duties.
Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of or ability to obtain current first aid and CPR certificates; possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver’s license; safe driving record. Because this job is considered safety sensitive, a drug screen test will be required prior to employment.
Hours/Shift
Monday through Friday, 8:30AM - 12:00PM.
