ASSOCIATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN FOR INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES
The Associate University Librarian for Instructional Services is responsible for the administration of the teaching and learning activities of the University Libraries, including reference, library/information literacy instruction and collection development. Oversees the librarian liaison program. Directly supervises librarians and administrative staff in relation to all the above. Ensures that instructional design best practices are applied to library instruction and supports incorporation of the practices in archival instruction. Establishes and interprets collection and service policies. Provides reference, information and library instruction services, and develops the collection in and liaises with the faculty in assigned areas. Participates in the overall management of the University Libraries through planning, policy development and budget oversight as part of the Library Management Team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supervises librarians and administrative staff including hiring, training, assignment of work, evaluation and staff development.

Plans, develops and implements; information literacy, liaison librarian, and collections services programs to meet user needs.

Plans, supervises and participates in reference services

Acts as a liaison librarian to university schools and departments as needed.

Encourages use of instructional design best practices in all aspects of University Library instruction.

Participates on the University Libraries' Teaching and Learning Committee.

Works as part of the library management team helps set strategic and budgetary goals.

Ensures that WU Libraries is aware of, participating in, and complying with Orbis Cascade Alliance initiatives in their areas of responsibility.

Is a member of the Electronic Resource Team.

Maintains awareness of professional standards and best practices.

Contributes to campus community and governance activities.

Stands in for University Librarian on library, university and other professional activities as necessary.
Is expected to split time between the Salem and Portland Campuses. -
Minimum Qualifications

MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited program
-
Minimum 5 years' experience providing information literacy instruction in an academic environment
-
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license or certification.

Demonstrated understanding of collection development principles
- Excellent interpersonal communication and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years of supervisory experience

Demonstrated expertise in the principles of instructional design

Familiarity with the use and teaching of AI in an educational setting
- Experience using Libguides software
