Medical Assistant


Willamette Valley Cancer Institute is looking to add a detail-oriented and proactive Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. This role is crucial in ensuring the seamless coordination of patient care and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain excellent communication with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies.


The general pay scale for this position at WVCI is
$20.00-$29.54. The actual hiring rate is dependent on many factors, including but not limited to: prior work experience, education, job/position responsibilities, location, work performance, etc.

Responsibilities:
  • Referrals Management: Efficiently send and follow up on referrals to specialists, hospice care, home health services, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals as required.
  • Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Orders: Coordinate and track all DME orders, ensuring timely delivery and resolving any issues that may arise.
  • Prior Authorizations: Handle and monitor prior authorizations for consultations and medications, ensuring all necessary paperwork and approvals are obtained.
  • Administrative Tasks: Assist with Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Paid Leave of Absence (PLO) paperwork, maintaining confidentiality and accuracy in all documentation.
  • Communication: Serve as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers, and external services to facilitate smooth operations and enhance patient satisfaction.
Medical Assistant Duties as follows:
  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication
  • Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection
  • Responds to patients’ calls as requested.
  • Performs other administrative duties like typing, filing, faxing, reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician.
  • Alerts nurse/physician of abnormal vitals, any important information given by patient.
  • Collection of inbound meaningful use data. Flu documentation, initial height and weight.
  • Prints med list for patient to review.
  • Ordering special tests (Oncotypes, Kras testing, EGFR (epidural growth factor receptor), Myraid, Paradigm, etc).
  • Diagnostic imaging orders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with healthcare software systems and electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Previous experience in a similar role within a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance procedures.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
