Salary Range:
$30.00 To $35.00 Hourly
The ideal candidate would be a Level 2 or 3 Machinist
Summary:
Position will setup and operate machining equipment to manufacture custom-designed parts for all systems designed and built by the company
Primary Duties:
Machine parts to engineering drawings using machine tools such as lathes and milling machines
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments
Measure, examine, and test completed parts in order to detect defects and ensure quality to engineering specifications
Assist and interface with mechanical engineering group during development of systems

Operator Level 1 (M1): minimum 6 months experience in a machine shop
Knowledge of basic tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.)
Ability to quality check parts with proper tools
Knowledge of setup sheets, feeds and speeds, tool wear and how to identify
Ability to obtain and cut material and operate band saw
Ability to identify different machines, tooling and finishes
Basic maintenance of machines (cleanout chips, check coolant levels, etc.)
Properly debur material
Basic knowledge of minimizing waste
Terminology you should know – drill, taps, calipers, end mills, tenths vs thousandths, mill and/or lathe parts, etc.
Trigonometry math skills (knows X & Y axis)
Operate CNC with a setup sheet and make parts with proper guidance
Operate manual mill or lathe or press
Intermediate Level 2 (M2): 2-5 years experience in a machine shop
Ability to setup and run CNC independently within similar time frame of previous jobs tracked in IFS
Basic skills on manual machines
Own your own set of tools
Ability to quality pass own parts
Ability to program on a 2-axis(retrofit) machine (bolt hole patterns)
program most machines
Read and interrupt G-code
Read and understand advanced prints
Knowledge of press fit basics, proper usage of tooling (including but not limited to wear & tear)
Understanding of work holding and how to use it (vises, collet holders, custom fixtures or other work holding devices)
Understands materials, feeds and speeds that is required to accomplish jobs with minimal wear on machines and tooling
Advanced knowledge of end mills and drills
Advanced knowledge of minimizing waste
Basic knowledge of fits (press, slip, clearance, etc.)
Able to operate CNC with a setup sheet and make parts independently
Operate an Arbor Press
Use a depth micrometer
Advanced Level 3 (M3): 5+ years experience in a machine shop
Operate all machines (mills, lathes, CNC and manuals), and program CNC machines independently
Advanced knowledge of machinery applications to accomplish jobs with minimal wear & tear on machines and tooling
Create fixturing and setup sheets to make advanced parts while maximizing efficiency and minimizing waste
Ability to R&D parts - which machine to use, how many operations, understands how the parts work together at the next level to help identify application issues before they happen
Knowledge of finishes and how they affect part making – thickness of chrome finish, zinc or anodize and how much material to take off to accommodate the finished size
Knows all tools used in the PRE-TEC machine shop
Knows the difference between similar use material; hardened steel and stainless steel & 2024 and 6061
Strong communication with engineers about new designs or possible changes to parts to maximize machine usage
Non-Essential Duties:

Maintain cleanliness of shop workspace and free of hazards

Ensure machine tools are properly maintained
Experience:
Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
Years of experience in a machine shop dependent upon the level listed above.
Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job.
Working knowledge of machine shop practices.
