Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Occupational Therapy, the faculty member performs teaching, service, and research duties in the occupational therapy field.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains standards of the profession, including rules and regulations of licensing and certification.
  • Assists with recruitment and admissions processes for the Department of Occupational Therapy
  • Provide academic advising for current and potential MOT students
  • Ensure each student has met health and academic requirements for attendance at each fieldwork education experience
  • Use active learning strategies to teach entry-level Master of Occupational Therapy learners in faculty members area of expertise and provide evaluation of student learning.
  • Engage in service to the university and the profession through committee appointments, providing continuing education offerings, clinical practice, consulting, etc.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum design with regard to principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in accordance with meeting accreditation standards.
  • Responsible for mentoring students on scholarly projects.
  • Demonstrate ongoing scholarly achievement and research expertise.

Required Qualifications

  • Must hold an unencumbered occupational therapy license in Mississippi
  • Must hold a national board certification from NBCOT.
  • Must have at least two years of clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist
  • Must hold a minimum of a masters degree awarded by an institution accredited by a USDE-recognized regional accrediting body.
  • Must be a member of the Mississippi Occupational Therapy Association (MSOTA).
  • Must be a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
  • Have sufficient clinical expertise in the area of instruction
  • Academic and experiential qualifications and background that are necessary to meet program objectives and the mission of the institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have documented scholarship and research.
  • Have knowledge of curriculum and instructional design to meet the mission and vision of the program and ensure successful delivery of the curriculum.
  • Have two or more years of academic or clinical teaching experience.

Physical Demands

  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and 10-key calculator
  • Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
  • Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Must have strength and agility to move files, paper boxes, and minor office equipment
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry 25 pounds
  • Must be able to maintain office hours and perform duties in an on-campus setting
