Description

Job Summary

This position is for a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment within the Department of Pharmacy Practice.  Under the direction of the Chair of Pharmacy Practice and the Dean of the School of Pharmacy, the primary responsibilities for this position include practice site development, teaching didactic courses within a professional pharmacy curriculum and service contributions to the department and school.  Research and other scholarly will also be expected. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

  • Establish and maintain an Ambulatory Care practice:
    • Provide patient care services
    • Educate pharmacy students at the practice site  

Teaching

  • Teach in the didactic component of the curriculum in an area of disciplinary expertise and need.
  • Help design and coordinate core curricular and elective courses for the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum. 
  • Provide assistance in other departmental course work as requested by the department chair.
  • Participate in continuing education and/or faculty development programs offered by the University, School and nationally.

Service

  • Participate as a faculty member in Departmental, School and University committees and activities as assigned.
  • Serve as faculty mentor to Doctor of Pharmacy students as assigned.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor to student organizations as assigned.
  • Service at the local, regional and national level with professional associations and organizations.
  • Service within the local and surrounding communities.

Scholarship

  • Conduct research/scholarship in an area of expertise
  • Remain current in specialty interest areas consistent with academic responsibility and program needs by disciplined reading, study and other faculty development activities 
  • Contribute to the body of knowledge in one’s discipline and primary interest area(s) via investigation or activity that shall terminate in publication of at least one article (or its equivalent), on average, in a nationally circulated professional journal and produce one poster/podium presentation at a national meeting per academic year.
  • Seek extramural support for research/scholarly interests.  Collaboration with other institutions and disciplines is strongly encouraged. 

Physical Demands

  • Must possess the physical ability to actively facilitate student learning in the classroom for extended period of times
  • Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
  • Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Must have ability to lift and carry 25 pounds

Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • Qualified applicants will have a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree and be eligible for licensure as a Pharmacist in the state of Mississippi.
  • Possess a strong commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and group communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates with previous experience teaching in a professional health sciences program (medicine, pharmacy, dental, etc) and/or a pharmacy background will be given preference.
  • A post-graduate residency or a minimum of two years of postgraduate experience is preferred.
