Job Summary
William Carey University seeks a qualified individual to provide theatrical instruction and mentorship in the Department of Theatre and Communication. This position is a full-time non-tenure track position. This is a 12-month contract with the ability to complete the contractual teaching load within 9 months. William Carey University theatre operates on a trimester system with a mainstage production in each trimester. It is also home to the summer stock theatre company, Carey Dinner Theatre (CDT). Service to CDT is negotiable on an annual basis.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach courses on a rotating basis to include Introduction to Theatre, Stagecraft, various design courses, Scenic Rendering, Scenic Painting as well as other courses if the candidate has the necessary credentials and experience
- Design one main stage design each year in the area of scenic, lighting, costume, or sound
- Serve as technical director/design mentor for all three mainstage productions.
- Collaborate with other department faculty in curriculum development and departmental planning
- Assist with recruitment of new students
- Advise and mentor students
- Serve on university committees
Physical Demands
- Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting, and to use standard office equipment including a computer and 10-key calculator
- Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
- Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Must have the ability to climb ladders
- Must have strength and agility to lift up to 30 pounds – 50 pounds

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Must hold an MFA or PhD in Theatre
- Must demonstrate a strong skill as a designer and technical director
- Must be able and willing to supervise and teach in all areas of design
- Must have the ability to communicate well with students and colleagues
- Must possess an appreciate and commitment to serve in Christian higher education
- Must be willing to participate in the life of the university via attendance at campus activities and events, university chapel services, committees, and local community involvement
- Must have a set of basic computing skills (email, MS Word, etc.)
- Must be organized and able to supervise/mentor student workers
- Must be able to meet specific deadlines and goals
- Must be able to maintain a clean and productive work environment
- Must be able to safely operate and instruct student workers on proper usage of power tools and shop equipment
- Must be able to travel to various conferences/festivals for recruitment, participation, and educational development
- Must have a valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or other design software.
- At least 1 – year teaching experience
- Additional experience in Theatre for Young Audiences and/or Scriptwriting
