What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teaching Faculty Fellowship, Clinical Psychol position at William James College, Inc.?
William James College announces openings for full-time Teaching Faculty Fellows in the Clinical Psychology Department beginning August 2025. The Fellowship offers a highly competitive salary and opportunities for career advancement at the College.
The Teaching Faculty Fellowship aims to recruit, train, and mentor recent graduates who have completed their doctoral degrees in Clinical or Counseling Psychology; and prepare new faculty to enter the nation’s professoriate. The primary aim of the Fellowship is to develop a critical mass of exceptionally talented and well-trained faculty members who are historically underrepresented in academic settings. It endeavors to equip Fellows with the skills, knowledge, and expertise to engage in paradigm shifting inclusive teaching, advising, and research practices as well as in administrative and leadership positions in academia.
Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must be recent graduates or early career professionals with Clinical or Counseling Psychology doctoral degrees (including those who will complete their graduate studies by August 2025). Candidates (1) who identify with groups that have historically been underrepresented in academia (including, but not limited to, individuals who identify as LGBTQIA , individuals with disabilities, ethnically, racially, or religiously minoritized individuals, and veterans and those presently serving in the armed forces); and/or (2) with a strong interest in promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility as well as a demonstrated commitment to serving underserved communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities: Teaching Faculty Fellows are involved in teaching, advising, and research supervision of graduate students. Additionally, they participate in didactic training on inclusive teaching and learning designs, strength-based pedagogical approaches, and culturally empowering instructional strategies. Fellows actively engage in professional development, scholarly, and program evaluation activities. They also receive faculty and peer mentorship throughout their enrollment in the program. Of particular interest to the Fellowship are candidates with a background—or interest in developing expertise—in consultation, personality and cognitive assessment, program development and evaluation, and substance use disorders. We are seeking applicants with interest in addressing disparities in these domains and/or whose work has focused on behavioral health equity for unserved groups and underserved communities. Fellows may teach generalist foundational courses in the Clinical Psychology Department, including Clinical Practice, Social Bases of Behavior, and Cognitive Assessment. We are also seeking applicants interested in teaching courses, in the Center for Multicultural and Global Mental Health, focused on psychological assessment and testing of Latino, Black, African, and Caribbean populations.
Qualifications: Applicants must possess a PsyD or PhD in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology, have completed an APA-accredited internship, have earned their degrees within the past 10 years (through August 2025), have teaching experience, preferably be licensed or license-eligible in Massachusetts, and maintain some involvement in clinical practice or consultation. A demonstrated record of scholarly work defined broadly (e.g., community engagement, educational leadership, innovation, investigation, and research) is preferred. Successful applicants will also have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the College’s strategic plan of inclusion. Candidates must be available to teach in-person classes and participate in on-campus activities. The department welcomes applications from individuals who may have had nontraditional career paths, or who may have taken time off for family reasons, or who have achieved excellence in careers outside of academia. Applicants must be able to assume employment in the United States without College Sponsorship.
Application Procedure: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to apply by Friday, May 16th, 2025. Applicants for the Teaching Faculty Fellowship must submit:
- A detailed cover letter describing their background and qualifications; teaching, clinical, and research interests; demonstrated commitment to working with historically excluded and underserved communities; dedication to pursuing a career in academia; and potential to add to the diversity of the College.
- A résumé/curriculum vitae.
