Position Summary
The Associate Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Global Research Institute and working with the Director and leadership team on strategic issues. This position oversees fiscal, human resource, and administrative activities and supervises staff accountable for day-to-day operations for the Global Research Institute (GRI) and its respective projects, including budgeting, financial management, analysis, forecasting, and reporting of grant/contract, private, and operating funds; procurement; and facility, information technology, and human resource management. The incumbent maintains relations with strategic partners across the University to ensure effective, efficient, and Federal, State, and W&M-compliant service provision to GRI and its projects. The Director of Operations serves on the leadership team, helping to navigate the organizational strategy and culture of GRI to fulfill its mission to serve as a leading research institution at W&M and around the globe.

- This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional overnight and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation.

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business administration, public policy, correlated field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Several years of experience in management.
- Recent and progressive experience managing staff and fiscal functions. Working knowledge of administrative and operational practices and procedures to include supervision and leadership, workforce planning, budget preparation, development, and monitoring.
- Demonstrated skill in developing business strategies, staffing, budgets, and plans; and experience managing financial functions to achieve those strategies.
- Demonstrated skill in preparing comprehensive evaluations of budget requests.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and lead efficient and effective work teams and associated performance management.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain, and interpret policies and procedures utilizing a high level of professional analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to foster and maintain collegial relationships with diverse constituencies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education.
- Experience with a research organization, project, or lab.
- Familiarity with grants and contracts in a university setting in terms of both understanding award language and implementation procedures.
- Experience with Commonwealth of Virginia higher education policies and practices.
- Experience utilizing William & Mary online administrative applications that support fiscal, human resources, payroll, and procurement transactions (i.e., Banner Finance, Qlik, Workday, and Discoverer reporting tools).
- Experience in board or advisory group management.
- Experience serving as a part of a leadership team.

Advertised Pay Range
$110,000 - $125,000 commensurate with experience
