Position Summary
The Camp Launch/Camp Orbit Education Guidance Counselor is the first point of contact for Residence-Life Advisors, Head of Residence-Life Advisors, Instructors and Onsite Program Coordinators to address campers’ social-emotional needs, behavioral issues, and the unique needs of the gifted population. The Education Guidance Counselor will mediate camper issues as they arise and be the lead on social and emotional issues of all campers and coordinates appropriate interventions based on student needs. The Education Guidance Counselor supports Residence-Life Advisors on social and emotional issues as needed. The Education Guidance Counselor will develop a Policies and Procedures document, referral plan and additional documents, as needed, for management of campers’ needs prior to the Instructors’ Orientation and will facilitate training at both Orientations. This person will report to the Director of Precollegiate Learner Programs at William and Mary and work closely with the Administrative Operations Specialist, WM staff, and program staff to ensure that the infrastructure is in place to support the campers in the program.

Must be available for on-call hours in addition to scheduled shifts.

This position is a temporary (hourly) position not to exceed 6 months. All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed on average 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve month period beginning May 1 each year.
This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.
This is a restricted position, subject to the continued availability of funding.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to social work such as psychology, sociology, or equivalent.
- Experience working with middle and/or high school students.
- Demonstrated ability to work and multitask effectively in a complex and fast-paced setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with gifted and high-ability students.
- State-issued certification or licensure as a social worker, counselor, or psychologist.
